Попробуйте убрать файлы
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/09-nvidia.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
и перезагрузиться.
Вообще, предполагается, что если присутствует /etc/X11/xorg.conf, то
пользователь сам его создал и сам настраивает.
