В фолбек-режиме.
Дело происходит в виртуалке, установленной с server-light-1.7, и
обновленной до сизифа. Сам гном, собственно, устанавливал обычным
apt-get install gnome3-default gnome-desktop3
virtualbox-guest-additions установлены, галочка "3D ускорение" в
свойствах виртуальной машины стоит. Да и, собственно, из самой
виртуальной машины, даже из фоллбек-сессии видно, что direct rendering:Yes
$ glxinfo|head
name of display: :0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
Более того, из нагугленного рецепта в фоллбек-сессии можно открыть
терминал, и командой
gnome-shell --replace &
увидеть гном-шелл во всей красе.
Но вот окно GDM логина смущает
