$ rpm -qf `which md5sum`
coreutils-5.3.1-alt0.4
Видимо, в свежих coreutils по умолчанию файлы теперь читаются в двоичном
режиме (раньше это "умолчание" было платформно-зависимым: двоичный режим
в DOS/Windows, текстовый - на остальных платформах). У разработчиков
дошли руки исправить этот исторически сложившийся хаос и бардак.
