Так. Первая "засада" была в битом файле. Тот раз допустил опечатку
исправляя отсутствовавший текст. :( Спешка, спешка... Просьба проверить
указаный файл иксорга. У меня он оказался "битый".
Теперь, осталось вернуть клавиатурное переключение, а не только мышью по
индикатору. Гм... Уже исправил. :) Просто залез в настройки модуля и
проверил... Восстановил слетевший вариант переключателя групп и всё
стало ОК.
Итог: Гном ни при чём. Виноваты битые иксы. Вопрос только, это мне так
подфартило или всем?
