Там где он вообще работает. Но вот у меня н Soltek'овской плате, н-р,
soft-shutdown возможен только для ACPI. Если активизирован APM, то
машина просто уходит на перезагрузку.
Теоретически ACPI более продвинут, он позволяет штатно переводить
устройства в энергосберегающие режимы / возвращать их обратно :-), так
что, для ноутов нужен, по-хорошему, именно он, однако его
линукс-имплементация и количество поддерживающих этот режим драйверов
устройств до последнего времени оставляли желать много лучшего...
Впрочем, пробуйте. Вам понадобится свежее ядро, в котором используется
kernel-feat-acpi посвежее. Ну и некоторое количество удачи :-).
