Тоже несколько раз замечал, что при обрыве связи с сервером, с
которого берутся шрифты, начинаются неприятнейшие глюки - новые
программы не запускаются (xterm), реакция на клавиатуру и мышь
очень заторможенная. Хоть и не взвис, но очень неприятно.
Кстати, вторым FontPath прописан локальный xfs.
