IMHO +/- десять гиг ничего особо не решают (на домашнем десктопе
основная часть системы именно на 2x500 и расположена), зато без
корня оказаться бывает крайне неуютно. Правда, там у меня так:

-- бишь небольшой корень и симметричные /usr и /var на двух дисках
(с тех пор добавился WD15EARS в /media).
