Для x2x не нужен VNC. Достаточно запущенной сессии X на обоих машинах.
Далее с той машины, где клавиатура с мышью:
$ ssh -fYX <second_pc> x2x -to $DISPLAY -west
Или -east, если монитор второй машины справа.
Из ограничений: запустить графическую сессию на второй машине надо
до вызова x2x, и есть вопросы с буфером обмена.
А с VNC работает x2vnc, запускается как
$ x2vnc -west <second_pc>:<DISPLAY>
