Обновился. Пропал коннект при начальной загрузке машины. После, по service
pppoe start коннект устанавливается моментально. Похоже, ему нехватает
какого-то модуля, но какого?
Вот логи от начальной загрузки:

Вот строчки, которые добавляются после установки коннекта после загрузки,
командой service pppoe start:
divert: not allocating divert_blk for non-ethernet device ppp0
PPP BSD Compression module registered
Ядро 2.4.29, то есть модные примочки типа hotplug, hald отсутствуют. Может
надо какой модуль гвоздями прибить, bsd_comp например? Хотя раньше работало и
без этого. Чтение CHANGES и HOW-TO-CONNECT не просветляет.
