AFAIR 1xDVD == 8xCD. IMHO лучше пользоваться "авто" (у меня 4x DVD+R TDK,
например, в этом случае пишутся: 1-я треть - 4х, 2-я - 6-8х, 3-я - 10-12х,
при этом никаких проблем с чтением записанного нигде не возникало)

AFAIK growisofs не показывает состояние буфера :( И ещё он, кажется, не
включает режим BurnFree (так что лучше в любом случае писать на максимальной
скорости - по опыту, искуственное занижение скорости только ухудшает качество
записи на DVD+R)
