Как-то наблдал такое с J2.0 на snd-es18xx, кажется. Причем
играло не через xmms-alsa, а поверх OSS, поэтому я отнес проблему
на счет альсы.
Workaround: можете попробовать xmms-crossfade в gapless mode, оно
пр этом не будет "хлопать" устройством, держа свой поток
постоянно открытым.
