Не чудо.
Если бы вы с ядром "up" в загрузчике включили бы "apic", то всё тоже
заработало бы.
Это уже тут говорилось - ВМварь думает, что если ядро собрано с поддержкой
apic, то этот самый апик включен - что не всегда верно. В ядрах smp apic
включен по дефолту.
