Посмотрите на разницу между xfontsel и диалогом выбора шрифта KDE.
В нем не всё можно выбрать.

Убрал, чтоб не было слишком много средств установки шрифтов.
А то получается DrakFont для системы, KFontinst для пользователя KDE,
spadmin для OpenOffice.
Все шрифты отлично ставятся из пакетов или на крайняк drakfont
