Поспешил обрадоваться. Дефект повторился после перезапуска
машины. Я редко это делаю, но потребовалось поставить свежую
прошивку в модем.
Версия с gpm не проходит. Всё возможное делал. Спит mc, но
ресурсы машины ничто не грузит, top не показывает.
