Все, Александр, swallowing объявлен устаревшей фичей и сломан, что в KDE,
что в GTK (точнее, в GTK осталась возможность reparent произвольного окна,
но в результате каких-то ошибок в реализации работает очень нестабильно
в прилодениях сложнее Hello World). Сходу починить не удается, хотя
аналогичный код в FvwmButtons работает как часы. О, этот дивный новый мир,
и все такое.
Впрочем, если не возражаете против хаченья libgtk+, можно попробовать
вернуть ситуацию на круги своя :-)
