Уже обсуждалось. До lrn или altlinux.ru сейчас дойти не могу, но суть,
насколько я помню, очень простая. Он (display) пытается читать stdin
[при определенных условиях на управляющий терминал? когда stdin не
isatty? не помню].
Соответственно, в случае xterm он быстро понимает, что это терминал и
ему ничего не светит, а в случае в случае запуска из меню он считает,
что это-де пайп и ждет. В общем, поищите... Впрочем, я могу и наврать с
три короба :-).
