Мне удалось воспроизвести эту ситуацию и зафиксить ее.
Сначала предварительные настройки
1. tune2fs -j /dev/hd_x_
2. Заменить ext2 на ext3 в /etc/fstab для /
3. Создать новый initrd
4. Убедиться, что он подхватывается
5. Перезагрузиться (раньше это не работало...)
Есть два варианта фиксов:
1. Без пересборки ядра - при _всех_ следующих загрузках добавлять ядру параметр rootfstype=ext3,ext2
2. С пересборкой ядра - наложить приложенный к письму патч, который войдет в следующее наше ядро.
