Есть ещё одно подозрение на неработоспособность XFree 4.2.0.
При запуске игрушек (Q3, Wolf) слетают иксы. Напрочь.
Глючить начало на 4.1.99. На ней после падения иксов приходилось делать
рестарт машины. Иначе иксы не грузились. На 4.2.0 один раз машина просто
рибутнулась сама-по-себе, а в остальные разы - падёж иксов. Дрова от
nvidia - 1.0.2314, kernel-2.4.18-alt02, P4, мама на via8233. Однако,
100%-ной уверенности в том, что это XFree у меня нет, так как
одновременно с XFree менялись и ядра. Возможно дело в них. Ранее и Q3 и
Wolf работали, сейчас - только Q3 и то, до начала игры. После этого
вместо надписей сплошные помехи. Под маздаем всё работает.
