Дедо в том что в Unix вообще и в Linux в частности, совсем другая
традиция работы с архиваторами. Сдесь разделяються архиваторы (tar, cpio
pax ...) и комресоры (gzip, bzip2, compress), первые занимаються тем
что формируют архив (собирают несколько файлов в один). Компрессоры
в сжимают уже готовый архив с применением различных алгоритмов.
Разбивкой на тома, занимаеться архиватор.
Если Вам нужны аналоги из msdos/win, можете воспользоваться набором
утилит zip/unzip. Есть также свободная версия unrar и shareware rar.
