Интересную вещь прочел в FAQ по xscreensaver:
The display modes that capture and modify an image of the desktop no
longer work on my ATI card, since I upgraded to Red Hat 7.1 and XFree86
4.x!
I've heard a couple of reports of this. I don't understand the nature of
the malfunction, but I do understand the cause: it's a bug in the X
driver for your video card. It's not a bug in xscreensaver, and there's
nothing I can do about it. Please report this bug to the folks
responsible for your video driver.
У меня как раз X 4.1.0 и ATI Rage XL. Дома Rage Pro 3D - надо будет
проверить как на ней. Правда все равно не понятно как это исправить, не
доунгрейдиться же на 3.3.6 - хотя на этой версии хоть 3D работало...
