получается, kdenlive оказывается нерабочим. Более того, работаем с kde4, а
одно из наиболее "забойных" приложений оказывается подменено на
нефункциональную в полном объёме компоненту из не готового пока kde5. ура.

ок, помогло. Опять-таки, неочевидно: загружено kde4

дык в диалоге ствойств wipe'а не отображается бОльшая часть luma-файлов,
присутствующих(!) в /lumas!
