Присутствует, по двум причинам:
1. В любом нормальном дистрибутиве это присутствует
2. Есть приложения, которые не совсем портированы под x64, такие как
[censored] флэш-плугин или (до недавнего времени) openoffice.

Если и даст, то не оченеь большое.
Основное преимущество 64разрядых систем - большее адресное
пространство, позволяющее замапить в userspace ольше 3х гигабайт.
Например, при работе с базами данных можно мапнуть 100гигабайтный файл
себе в память целиком, а не окнами.
Можно добиться некоторой оптимизации за счёт использования 64разрядных
регистров процессора и 64разрядных команд пересылки данных, проблема
только в том, что такую оптимизацию уже наверняка сделали ещё раньше с
применением какого-нибудь SIMD, например, SSE3
