Вообще-то бакэнд не обязательно движок. Бывает, что движком
является фронтэнд. IMHO - бакенд, это заменяемый модуль, в
отличии от фронтэна - основного, незаменяемого модуля.
т.е.в терминах советские программистов:
Фронтэнд - основной, управляющий модуль программы (основная
программа).
Бакэнд - модуль (программа), вызываемая из основной программы.
IMHO лет через пять (если не раньше) войдёт в основной лексикон
русского языка, так-же как сейчас вошло сло драйвер, вместо
модуля управления вводом-выводом.
