Хороший вопрос... предлагаю эмпирически -- если все
заинтересованные найдут время проверить работу libalsa/alsa-*
из Daedalus с 2.6.18/2.6.24, можно и обновить.
Но это именно как "от случая к случаю", общее правило, которое
лично у меня выработалось -- "если версии альсы разные, готовься
рано или поздно этими ножницами получить в лоб".
