С AWE32 была накладка (недостача modalias в модуле, кажется),
которая привела к тому, что автоматом модуль не подгрузился --
для терминала-то это критично, а на localhost можно гвоздями
в /etc/modules прибить...

В основном поднимаются ядром (kernel pnp) и udev.
Контроллер -- это треугольный такой? Кажется, где-то валялся,
можно попробовать ткнуть -- но можете и сами с livecd проверить.
