Необязательно, но крайне желательно по простой причине -- иначе
когда-нибудь диск без разделов кто-нить непременно примет за
пустой и разобьёт...

Также зависит от скоростей чтения/записи самих дисков и разницы
в получившихся ФС, наверное.
