Ну ln -sf /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem (как уже и сказали).

Ч-чего? Не знаю, какое такое "D" -- когда модему minicom
(простой minicom в терминале) говорит "AT S... ... ..." -- тот
отвечает "OK?
Да, и если есть возможность параллельно послушать линию --
попробуйте.
