По моему опыту, житье на альфа-бета версиях очень часто чревато
дополнительной работой, за счет неустойчивости интерфейсов и т.п. Да и
когда разрабатываешь софт не только для одного дистрибутива, а для пачки
линуксов и других юниксов, то тащить за собой кучу лишнего софта или
требовать от заказчика обновления его системы - не всегда приемлимо.
