Мне оказалось не влом.
Пересборка gcc4.4 в среде сегодняшнего Сизифа- тормоза.
gcc4.3- тормозов не оказалось.
Также нет тормозов при пересборке gcc4.4 с --target=i686.
Устанавливалось все это в систему на 5.1, т.к. Сизифа на i586 у меня сейчас нет.

Гм. К слову, от версии gcc также зависит и сборка Seamonkey, причем 2.0.2 тоже.
