Вот это подтвержу... Ставил недавно компакт 20030310 на smp-машину...
Из smp установилось только kernel-image-std-smp, больше никаких модулей.
Зато для -up установились, наверно, все пакеты с модулями. Более того,
/boot/vmlinuz-smp указывал на -up ядро (то же самое для остальных -smp
симлинков)...
Вообще, тут, кажется, ещё есть баг и с скрипте установки ядра... вот
такая история была: обновил на своей машине smp-ядро, так мне заодно
обновились симлинки /boot/vmlinuz-up и /boot/initrd-up.img - они стали
указывать на (несуществующие) up-файлы такой же версии, какая была у
установленного smp-ядра. Но ядро -up я не обновлял!
