В игры, насколько я понимаю, играют. Да и пользовательские ДЕ,
насколько я понимаю, вовсю переходят на использование 3d ускорения для
отрисовки графики.
При этом ответ на вопрос "почему так тормозит или вообще рисует чёрный
экран" для сколько-нибудь простого пользователя вовсе не очевиден. И
даже для не очень простого и привычного к тому, что уж для видеокарты
intel уж точно никаких драверов в linux доустанавливать не надо.
