Он содержит историю изменений пакета, в этом его ценность.

Можно не равняться, поскольку формально kernel-source-2.6.26 и
kernel-source-2.6.27 это разные пакеты, но imho удобнее работать,
когда одноимённые пакеты имеют общую историю.
