testing installer-20030813.  Overall: better than I thought but
with at least two block bugs (parallel to ALJ2.2 ones).


Hardware

P4-1.7 / P4X266 / 256M / 40G / GF2MX400 / TFT 15" / RTL8139

from the very beginning, severity in *'s and comments

=> install "recommended" uk_UA.CP1251, 1024x768 from CD-RW

boot & ide ok

* [cosmetic?]
screen resolution during install was 800x600 (by eye and looking
at /tmp/Xconf) -- too bad on TFT and strange after "1024x768" :)


* [don't forget in Compact itself]
network cfg: dhcpcd rpm missing => no DHCP (no problem)

seems like keyboard cfg was not updated for XF86 4.3 at all:

I can select "rua" and get

    Option "XkbLayout" "us,rua"

instead of (exactly! don't rearrange)

    Option "XkbLayout" "us,ua,ru"

extra "en+ru+ua" layouts (rua, ruan, ru_group3) must be
eliminated in favour of "us,ua,ru" setup.

no eject before reboot

=> installed ok, bootloader ok, WinXP boots (btw, s/NT/WinNT/ would
be somewhat less terse in boot menu?)

"autologin" for "user" enabled

too light background on fb console during boot? (DONE's almost
invisible, as well as cyan "ALT Linux")
	
additionally breaks in unpleasant manner after "setting up
bootsplash"

* [cosmetic]
"reboot" in xterm leads to spurious syslog (pam) message
right over the login prompt -- not very pretty too

Overall: ok.

boot as "safe mode" (btw, should we add 'noapic acpi=off' to its
arguments so as to have a "one-button" solution to one
particularly common class of problems?)

supported by via82cxxx_audio and snd-via82xx from kernel pkgs in
20030813 (2.4.21rel-alt12/0.9.6-alt6), no difference heard on PCM
test (ogg123) => snd-via82xx recommended
