Так мы и делали в конце.
Я бы только ставил акценты иначе. Проблема не в том, что сам по себе
Serial или Epoch являются чем-то смущающим. Это всего лишь средства
упорядочения пакетов, внешние по отношению к версии упакованной
программы, отражаемой в именовании самого пакета. Если они документированы
(в packaging policy), если упаковщик знает о них и понимает, когда
возникает необходимость их использовать - то ничего смущающего в
них нет.
Неприятности могут возникнуть лишь тогда, когда о Serial/Epoch
пакета забывают и в spec для более поздней версии пакета они
отсутствуют (ну, к примеру, появился новый мантейнер, который
написал spec с нуля...). Собственно, не такие уж и большие
проблемы, вопрос внимательности и дисциплины.
С другой стороны - делать Epoch в виде даты как обязательное
требование packaging policy вполне, как ты любишь выражаться,
осмысленно :). Правда, практически гарантирована необходимость
удара кувалдой при апдейте сизифного пакета пакетом со стороны.
IMHO, вопрос скорее эстетический. :)
