А если просто установить 2 пакета: gtk-theme-switch и gtk2-theme-switch
(если речь идет о Compact 3.0, хотя и в Master 2.4 подобные были) и менять
темы с их помощью. Они что нужно и куда нужно пропишут сами, и
правильнее...
