Пробуйте зачрутиться и сделать:
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
grub-install --target=i386-pc /dev/sdX
где вместо /dev/sdX ваше устройство.
И посмотрите, что в /boot/grub/grub.cfg
может появились опции linuxefi и initrdefi, их нужно исправить на
linux16 и initrd16.
Ну, а чтобы при update-grub не испортилось заново, исправлять затем в
/etc/sysconfig/grub2
