Да, действительно, удаление помогло.
При установленном пакете (openoffice.org-gnome) получалось следующее.
Создаем шаблон документа, который мы хотим, что бы открывался при
запуске writer. Сохраняем его и говорим, что это шаблон по умолчанию.
При дальнейших запусках редактора вываливается ошибка, описанные в
моем первом посте.
Права на "шаблон по умолчанию" - 644.
Кто-нибудь еще может подтвердить эту ошибку?
И еще. Все бы ничего, но вот после удаления пакета портится внешний вид ООо.
