Это описано выше, resque режим и все гораздо проще.

А вот здесь - вопрос. Мой опыт утверждает что достаточно сменить
активный раздел любым fdisk с win на линуксовый, и этого хватит.
XP что нибудь особенное в mbr кладет? Если нет, то должно быть достаточно.
