и много думаем. Эти две опции были ошибкой. Я сам когда-то так
делал, пока не нарвался.
На указанном сайте сказано, что:

если поставить опции persist и maxfail 0 прямо в файле
pppoptions, то замечается подвисание системы при запуске, если кабель не
рабочий, и загрузка никогда не уходит далее попытки инициализировать
pppoe интерфейс.
Далее следует дискуссия, из которой я почти ничего не понял.
Может быть кто -нибуть вместо совета хорошо подумать просветит
начинающего "чайника" чем заменить строки
