Ну, для установки, вестимо:

# apt-get install lilo
--------------------
После этого, читаете страницу lilo.conf(8) и правите соответствующий
конфиг: /etc/lilo.conf
По завершению изменения конфига, выполняете команду:
--------------------
# lilo
--------------------
Она пропишет загрузчик в соответствии с конфигом.
Про alterator ничего сказать не могу. Это уже ваша, специфичная для ALT,
штука.
Если Вы впервые меняете загрузчик, имеет смысл иметь livecd для
аварийного восстановления.
