Тяните через rsync -z.
То, что он несжатый - значительно снижает трафик на синхронизацию
зеркал Сизифа с помощью rsync. Да и в дальнейшем, при наличии уже
скачанного файла contents_index, обновление до более новой версии
будет гораздо проще, если пользоваться rsync -zP.

А он умеет уже, но только каталог, в котором должен лежать файл -
приходится угадывать.
Впрочем, алгоритм очень простой.
Если эта программа нужна root в режиме rescue - то она лежит либо в
/bin либо в /sbin
Если же нет - она лежит в /usr/bin или /usr/sbin. Какой именно
подкаталог - /sbin или /bin выбрать - зависит от назначения программы.
Для серверов и утилит администрирования (ну то есть для тех программ
которые запускаются под root) - каталог /sbin и /usr/sbin. Для
остальных - /bin и /usr/bin.
