Доброго времени суток!
Система ALT Linux 5.1 branch
Решил сэмулировать ситуацию пользования коммерческих
Windows игр с линуксовыми клиентами на софтовых саунд-чипах
(домашние ноутбуки и десктопы с Linux без хардварных звуковых карт).
Снял старенький Ensoniq 5880 и лишился звука во всех несвободных играх
с сообщением по сабжу:
open /dev/[sound/]dsp: No such file or directory
Покурил русский гугл, но вразумительного почти ничего
кроме "воды" не нашел.
Жаль, что в ALT не работает из коробки. ИМХО не стоит
"вырезать" такую прослойку как геймер. Игры на внутренних
игровых серверах востребованы...
Наткнулся на решение проблемы на англоязычном ресурсе, -
похоже в Debian Project такой проблемы нет:

В топике также упоминается пакет oss-compat:

Подал:
# modprobe snd_pcm_oss
# modprobe snd_mixer_oss
Пакет
kernel-modules-oss-std-def
не стоит.
Звук приходит в норму.
Похоже в Debian проблема решена?
Через вэб почитал сизифовский топик
alsa oss, плавно перешедший к обсуждению файловых систем
но так и не понял, к какому консенсусу решили придти в ALT?
Судя по 5.1/branch проблема повисла в воздухе?
И будет ли решаться вообще?
Хотелось бы прояснить ситуацию.
