Спасибо! Именна на такой точный и лаконичный ответ я и рассчитывал.
Проблема решена именно этим способом.

Я же в топике написал, что Хранитель Экрана вывешивает Иксы не только,
когда запускается сам. Настройка рабочего стола при нажатии "Хранитель
Экрана" делала ровно то же самое (похоже с OpenGL трабла). Так что мне
нужно было именно в текстовом конфиге все поотменять.
