apt-get install feh
man feh
запуск типа:
feh -D 5 -r /path/to/img -F -Z
Можно прописать это в ~/.xsession.d предварительно настроив автозапуск
Х-сессии от пользователя.
Из консоли можно запускать:
DISPLAY=:0 feh ....
