Подскажите, пожалуйста, какие ещё логи посмотреть.
Знаю только /var/log/messages, dmesg (или это не сюда?)
А что искать?

У меня просто "замораживается" всё изображение. Прямо в иксах (KDE,
конкретно) Курсор мыши - не двигается. Ни на какие клавиатурные
сокращения - не реагирует. Вентилятор - молотит как сумасшедший.
Полный зависон...
У меня ALD 4 стоит ещё на IBM ThinkPad R40 - обновляться просто боюс.
