у меня примерно на таком же хозяйстве звук буспроблемно стал работать
только на кернеле >2.4.19
хотя поддержка была и на предыдущих кернелах
на крнеле с кернел.орг 2.4.18 вообще не работало, на кернеле от АЛМ
- звук шел рывками, на 2.4.19 - усе ок
