К сожалению на некоторых видеокартах действительно наблюдается
такой эфект с полноэкранным режимом VMware. Лично я видел всякие
кренделя на i810 и старых карточках S3 и именно в текстовом
режиме Вари.
Обычно надо сделать так:
1. Установить в окошке ось
2. Установить в ось VMtools
3. Перестартовать ось.
Далее, попробовать переключиться в полный экран когда в окошке
уже графика, обычно получается. В случае успеха - попытаться
переключитьс при текстовом режими, хотя не факт что получится.
С i810 когда то очень помог откат на X 3.3.6 причем с agpgart
собранным с Интеловского Сайта. Разумеется там только под ядро
2.2.X и никакого 3D :-((
