Зачем так круто? А setterm?
Я /etc/rc.d/rc.local включил:
setterm -blank 4
setterm -powerdown 6
setterm -powersave powerdown
и работает.

Но, встречный вопрос - а аппаратное усыпление - в виде просто нажатия
на соотвествующую кноаку - устраиваеи? Проблем не вызывает?
Лично я после нескольких перезагрузок после такого усыпления больше этой
кнопкой не пользуюсь.
