У меня diablo II LoD в wine-vanilla разрешение возвращает, но отламывает
эффекты у kde 4.4.1. Получаем черный экран и курсор мыши поверх.
Alt+Shift+F12 помогает, но при этом не показывается панель задач. Приходится
перезапускать plasma-desktop.. Но это так.. "плач Ярославны" и, скорее, для
sysiphus@.
По теме - можно написать обертку для вызова xrandr --output $output --mode
$mode после выхода :)
