Как оказалось, я имел ранее представление об этом параметре, и,
поковырявшись в бекапах, увидел, что менял его значение на 7 (было
время, когда тестировал несколько оконных менеджеров и нужно было
по-быстрому переключаться между ними.. по умолчанию там 4, так что если
и было закомментарено, то должно быть 4. В моем нынешнем xdm-config
было значение 1. Как это случилось - не знаю, я всегда, после установки
нового дистрибутива просто заменяю содержимое каталога /etc/X11/xdm на
свое, отлаженное, более привлекательное и проверенное временем. Видимо
когда-то пропустил и оставил новый xdm-config..
Прошу прощения за переполох.. Все уже из головы вылетать стало.
P.S. Однако иметь по умолчанию DisplayManager._0.startAttempts: 1 все
же нехорошо, как мне кажется.. лучше уж закомментарить его вообще,
будет 4..
